Thyroglobulin Antibody (TGAB)

Thyroglobulin Antibody (TGAB)

The Mayo Clinic Thyroglobulin Antibody (TGAB) test is a blood test that measures the level of antibodies to thyroglobulin in the blood. Thyroglobulin is a protein produced by the thyroid gland and is involved in the production of thyroid hormones. Abnormal levels of TGAB can indicate autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease, as well as certain types of thyroid cancer. The test is typically performed using a blood sample and is considered a safe and non-invasive diagnostic tool. Results can guide further diagnostic testing and treatment decisions, and can help healthcare providers monitor the progression of thyroid disorders over time.

Essential for Diagnosing Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases

The TGAB screening at Mayo Clinic is crucial in diagnosing autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, and others. This test measures the presence of antibodies against thyroglobulin, a protein produced in the thyroid gland. Elevated levels of these antibodies can indicate an autoimmune attack on the thyroid, leading to various thyroid dysfunctions. Regular monitoring of TGAB levels is vital for patients with known thyroid disorders, ensuring effective management of their condition.
