Mayo Clinic offers a comprehensive blood test known as the Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation/Intravascular Coagulation and Fibrinolysis (DIC/ICF) Profile (ADIC) to assess your blood's coagulation and fibrinolysis pathways. This specialized test is instrumental in diagnosing and monitoring conditions like disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and intravascular coagulation and fibrinolysis (ICF), which involve abnormal blood clotting and breakdown processes. Whether you're experiencing unexplained bleeding or clotting symptoms, have underlying medical conditions, or are preparing for surgery, the ADIC screening can provide essential insights into your blood's health. Explore the significance of this test, its benefits, and how it can help you maintain optimal blood coagulation and fibrinolysis.

DIC/ICF Profile (ADIC)
Mayo Clinic's Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation/Intravascular Coagulation and Fibrinolysis (DIC/ICF) Profile (ADIC) is a highly specialized blood test designed to evaluate the coagulation and fibrinolysis pathways within your blood. These pathways are responsible for regulating blood clot formation and dissolution. In conditions such as disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and intravascular coagulation and fibrinolysis (ICF), these processes become imbalanced, leading to excessive clotting or bleeding. The ADIC test precisely measures various clotting factors and fibrinolytic markers, providing healthcare professionals with valuable information to diagnose, manage, and monitor these complex disorders. It is especially important for individuals with underlying medical conditions that may impact blood coagulation or those preparing for surgical procedures.

While we strive to make the results clear and concise, guidance and examination from your primary care physician are essential to fully understanding the results and determining the appropriate next steps.
The Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation/Intravascular Coagulation and Fibrinolysis (DIC/ICF) Profile (ADIC) screening offers several significant advantages. Firstly, it aids in the early and accurate diagnosis of conditions like DIC and ICF, enabling timely interventions to prevent severe bleeding or clotting complications. Secondly, for individuals with underlying medical conditions, the test provides essential information about their blood's coagulation and fibrinolysis status, guiding healthcare providers in tailoring treatment plans. Thirdly, if you're preparing for surgery, the ADIC test assesses your bleeding and clotting risk, ensuring a safer surgical experience.
